Below is a list of herbal supplements (available in raw plant form, powder, capsules, tablets and pills) that can help manage or alleviate health conditions related to the flu, common cold or pneumonia. Most of these formulas, in conjunction with conventional medicine, have been used to prevent and treat COVID-19 patients across the globe with an 80-90% recovery rate. According to official data in China, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used in the treatment of over 74,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide.

Prevention & Treatment of the Covid-19/Coronvirus

Prevention Phase

Take at least 1,000 - 2,000 I.U’s per day and make sure it is ingested with some fat for better absorption. Also, take a good immune multivitamin.


Yu Ping Feng San (JadeDefender)

It is an ancient herbal supplement most recommended for reinforcing the body's immune function. Yu Ping Feng Wan was the basic herbal formula recommended by Chinese health authorities to the public to enhance the immune function some years ago when SARS occurred in China.


Pneumonia Prevention Formula 

This formula is used to strengthen the immune system and prevent pneumonia due to viral infections and the flu.

Influenza Phase

Gan Mao Ling (Common Cold Effective-Remedy) 

This is a great formula for the early stage of the common cold and/or flu without the symptom of a sore throat. 

When to take it: First sign of scratchy throat, feeling cold/chills, sensitive to cold and/or wind, runny nose with clear mucus/phlegm, etc.

When to take it: Onset of fever (low-graded), alternating chills and fever, aversion to cold and wind, headache, ticklish throat, neck pain, stiff and rigid neck/shoulders, soreness of muscles/body ache, little or no sweat or night sweats, nasal congestion or runny nose, sneezing, sensitivity to dust


Yin Qiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia)

Support the immune system and it is most effective when symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, and other discomforts in the head first manifest.

When to take it: Mild-High fever with chills or no chills, sweat or incomplete sweat, chills, cough, headache, feeling of thirst, sore throat and body ache.


Qing Wen Bai Du Yin (Clear Epidemics and Overcome Pathogenic Influences Decoction)

When to take it: Intense fever, Strong thirst, dry heaves, severe stabbing headache, extreme irritability, delirious speech, rashes, epistaxis (nose bleed), chapped/dark lips, cold extremities, convulsions or restlessness.


Chuan Xin Lian Wan (InflamClear)

A modern herbal formula indicated for cold. It works by clear toxic heat (inflammation) caused by the common cold. Xiao Chai Hu Tang

The pattern of conditions Xiao Chai Hu Tang deals with is known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as Shao Yang Syndrome or Lesser Yang Stage disorder. Traditionally, this means that an external pathogen has penetrated the body (such as a cold) but was not released properly or completely. The pathogen then sinks deeper into the body, becoming stuck in the level described as in-between the interior and exterior energetic systems. According to TCM, this "half-interior, half-exterior" level corresponds primarily with the Gall Bladder and Liver organs/meridians. Typical presentations of this pattern include alternating fever and chills, chest and rib-sides fullness and discomfort, a bitter taste in the mouth and dry throat, reduced appetite, an urge to throw up, and irritability.


Gan Lu Xiao Du Dan

Seasonal damp-heat disease, or early stages of a damp warm-febrile (flu) disease in any season, marked by fever, aching limbs, throat swelling, lethargy, stifling sensation in the pectoral area, glomus, scanty dark urine. Tongue coat is white, greasy or yellow, dry. Pulse is soggy and rapid. There might be vomiting and diarrhea, jaundice, or persistent fever.

When to take it: Fever, which is more pronounced in the afternoon, alternating chills with fever, cough, absence of wheezing, bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth, chest stuffiness, stifling sensation, chest and hypochondriac fullness and distention, irritability, nausea or vomiting, no appetite, weakness. Similar to the beginning stage of pneumonia.


Bai Hu Jia Ren Shen Tang (White Tiger plus Ginseng Decoction) with Si Tu Tang (Four Wild Decoction)

When to take it: cough, stifling sensation, stuffiness, and distention in the chest, asthma and wheezing that is worsened with exertion, accelerated respiration, thirst, irritability, reddish-yellow urine

Qing Zao Jiu Fei Tang (Eliminate Dryness and Rescue the Lung Decoction)

Indications: dry, hacking cough with little or no sputum, dry or sore throat, flushed face, difficult to expectorate sputum, restless, maybe hemoptysis (cough blood), cough with chest pain, shortness of breath, hoarse voice, fever, chills, decreased urination, constipation, the sensation of fullness in the chest, nose bleed, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, dry skin/hair


Huang Lian Shang Qing Wan (Coptis Pill to Clear the Upper Burner)

Indications: acute red eyes, sore throat, mouth/tongue sores, dark/reddish and/or burning/hot urine, constipation, gum bleeding, dizziness


Qing Fei Yi Huo Pian (Clear Lung & Subdue Fire Pills)

Indications: productive cough with thick, yellow sputum, excessive phlegm, sore throat, nose/mouth sores, tooth pain, dry stool, dark urine, swollen salivary glands, raspy voice

Yang Yin Qing Fei Wan (Nourish the Yin & Clear the Lungs Decoction)

A white curd-like membrane in the throat that is difficult to scrape off, dry mouth and throat that is worse at night, hoarse voice, night sweats, flush face, afternoon fever, sore and swollen throat, dry nose/lips, raspy breathing resembling wheezing, cough with dry or little phlegm, mild-high fever, feeling miserable and agitated with fever, insomnia, shortness of breath on exertion, urgent panting

When to take it: Absence of fever, dry cough, chest stuffiness, shortness of breath, shortness of breath upon exertion, dry mouth, weakness.
