What We Do

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive system of medicine that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It includes a range of practices such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, cupping, tuina (bodywork), moxibustion and exercise, which are designed to promote health and treat illness. From a scientific perspective, TCM has been studied extensively in recent years, and many of its components have been found to have physiological and psychological effects. For example, acupuncture, which is one of the most well-known components of TCM, has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters, as well as increase blood flow and reduce inflammation in the body. TCM is based on a different understanding of the body and its functioning than that of Western medicine. TCM views the body as a whole, interconnected system that is influenced by the environment and the individual's emotional and psychological state. It also emphasizes the importance of balance and harmony in the body's functioning. Herbal medicine is another important aspect of TCM. Herbs are used to address imbalances in the body and promote healing. Many herbs used in TCM have been found to contain bioactive compounds with therapeutic effects, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. For example, the herb astragalus has been shown to stimulate the immune system, while ginkgo biloba can improve cognitive function. In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, TCM also includes dietary therapy and other forms of physical therapy. These components of TCM have also been found to have beneficial effects on the body, such as improving the digestive system and reducing stress and anxiety. Lastly, TCM is a valuable and effective system of medicine that can be used in conjunction with Western medicine to promote health and well-being.

"I came to Dr. Joe a broken person. Years of a painful lip allergy that every dermatologist in Franklin brushed off as dermatitis. Years of medications and steroids that never helped. When I walked in his office there was no doubt I was in the place that God led me to. He told me that after 7 days I would have relief. I woke up on the 7th morning and I was pain free for the 1st time in 6 years. I cannot stress enough how amazed I am. I feel like a completely different person. I will refer him to everyone I know." - Hope R.

"I would give this place 10 stars! First, I’ve been to all the other acupuncture places in the area and this one by far is the best. The office setting is great and professional and the staff are with it. Most importantly I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression for some time now and have gotten little relief from traditional methods of treatment. My primary issue is that I have this chronic neck tension and it extends into my head. I have constant tightness at the base of my skull and neck and it radiates to a vice like feeling around my head. This is one of the reasons I have anxiety and depression. I went to TAW and the process was so thorough. He quickly understood exactly what was going on and began a treatment plan that helped me immediately. Initially I went every 4 days and now I’m going every 7 and progressively getting better. I can’t tell you how bad off I was and how much better I feel. I can’t say enough about how effective this place is." -Mike S.

New To Acupuncture?

Welcome to True Acupuncture & Wellness! If you are new to acupuncture, we understand that you may have some concerns or questions. If you are feeling anxious or nervous, please let us know so that we can help alleviate any concerns you may have. Rest assured, we will walk you through every step of the process.

Dr. Joe will begin by discussing your reasons for seeking treatment and your health history. He may ask specific questions about your current health complaints to determine the best course of action.

During the treatment, Dr. Joe will use thin, sterile, disposable needles to target acupuncture points on your body. After the needles are inserted, you will have an opportunity to relax for about 30 minutes while the treatment takes effect. Many patients find this experience calming and may even drift off to sleep or enter into a meditative state.

Once your session is complete, Dr. Joe will remove the needles and answer any questions you may have. He will also provide you with a personalized treatment plan that may include recommended treatment, herbal medicine and lifestyle changes. It is important to follow the plan to achieve the best possible results.
