What We Do
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive system of medicine that has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. It includes a range of practices such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, cupping, tuina (bodywork), moxibustion and exercise, which are designed to promote health and treat illness. From a scientific perspective, TCM has been studied extensively in recent years, and many of its components have been found to have physiological and psychological effects. For example, acupuncture, which is one of the most well-known components of TCM, has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters, as well as increase blood flow and reduce inflammation in the body. TCM is based on a different understanding of the body and its functioning than that of Western medicine. TCM views the body as a whole, interconnected system that is influenced by the environment and the individual's emotional and psychological state. It also emphasizes the importance of balance and harmony in the body's functioning. Herbal medicine is another important aspect of TCM. Herbs are used to address imbalances in the body and promote healing. Many herbs used in TCM have been found to contain bioactive compounds with therapeutic effects, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. For example, the herb astragalus has been shown to stimulate the immune system, while ginkgo biloba can improve cognitive function. In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, TCM also includes dietary therapy and other forms of physical therapy. These components of TCM have also been found to have beneficial effects on the body, such as improving the digestive system and reducing stress and anxiety. Lastly, TCM is a valuable and effective system of medicine that can be used in conjunction with Western medicine to promote health and well-being.
"I would give this place 10 stars! First, I’ve been to all the other acupuncture places in the area and this one by far is the best. The office setting is great and professional and the staff are with it. Most importantly I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression for some time now and have gotten little relief from traditional methods of treatment. My primary issue is that I have this chronic neck tension and it extends into my head. I have constant tightness at the base of my skull and neck and it radiates to a vice like feeling around my head. This is one of the reasons I have anxiety and depression. I went to TAW and the process was so thorough. He quickly understood exactly what was going on and began a treatment plan that helped me immediately. Initially I went every 4 days and now I’m going every 7 and progressively getting better. I can’t tell you how bad off I was and how much better I feel. I can’t say enough about how effective this place is." -Mike S.

New To Acupuncture?
If you are new to acupuncture, we understand that you may have some concerns or questions. If you are feeling anxious or nervous, please let us know so that we can help alleviate any concerns you may have. Rest assured, we will walk you through every step of the process.

We will begin by discussing your reasons for seeking treatment and your health history. We may ask specific questions about your current health complaints to determine the best course of action.

During the treatment, we will use thin, sterile, disposable needles to target acupuncture points on your body. After the needles are inserted, you will have an opportunity to relax for about 30 minutes while the treatment takes effect. Many patients find this experience calming and may even drift off to sleep or enter into a meditative state.

Once your session is complete, we will remove the needles and answer any questions you may have. We will also provide you with a personalized treatment plan that may include recommended treatment, herbal medicine and lifestyle changes. It is important to follow the plan to achieve the best possible results.

"My very first acupuncture experience. I must say it was well worth it. Dr. Joe was very courteous and professional. He really put my nerves at ease. I have chronic pain, mostly in my back. But I also suffer from frozen shoulder. Let me just say "Wow". After one session, the pain in my shoulder is practically gone! I barely felt the needles when he inserted them. He then hooked those needles to electrodes and the sensation of my muscles involuntarily twitching felt a little weird at first. But it didn't hurt in the least. Truly, after this first session, the range of motion in my shoulder did increase! After about 20 minutes of quiet time, Dr. Joe then did cupping on my shoulder and upper back for about 10 minutes. It really relieved the tension I was holding in my muscles. I've already booked my second appointment for next week! I would highly recommend Dr. Joe and the good folks at True Acupuncture and Wellness. It's an effective tool in the arsenal to help you combat chronic pain." 💯 -Kim N.
