Acupuncture Treats A Variety of Health Conditions

"I woke up on the 7th morning and I was pain free for the first time in 6 years."

I came to Dr. Joe a broken person. Years of a painful lip allergy that every dermatologist in Franklin brushed off as dermatitis. Years of medications and steroids that never helped. When I walked in his office there was no doubt I was in the place that God led me to. He told me that after 7 days I would have relief. I cannot stress enough how amazed I am. I feel like a completely different person. I will refer him to everyone I know. - Hope R.

Acupuncture is a whole-body medicine. It can support healing across many systems of the body, from pain and digestion to immunity, women’s health, and emotional well-being.

My very first acupuncture experience. I must say it was well worth it.

Dr. Joe was very courteous and professional.
He really put my nerves at ease. I have chronic pain, mostly in my back. But I also suffer from frozen shoulder. Let me just say "Wow". After one session, the pain in my shoulder is practically gone! I barely felt the needles when he inserted them. He then hooked those needles to electrodes and the sensation of my muscles involuntarily twitching felt a little weird at first. But it didn't hurt in the least. Truly, after this first session, the range of motion in my shoulder did increase! After about 20 minutes of quiet time, Dr. Joe then did cupping on my shoulder and upper back for about 10 minutes. It really relieved the tension I was holding in my muscles. I've already booked my second appointment for next week! I would highly recommend Dr. Joe and the good folks at True Acupuncture and Wellness. It's an effective tool in the arsenal to help you combat chronic pain." 💯  -Kim N.

How Acupuncture Treats Pain

Research shows that acupuncture can help the body relieve pain in several ways. One theory is that it stimulates the release of endorphins — the body’s natural painkillers — which reduce pain signals sent to the brain. Another is that it encourages the nervous system to release neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine, which regulate pain, mood, and sleep. Acupuncture may also activate the body’s immune system, promoting healing and reducing inflammation.

Brain imaging studies (fMRI) have shown that acupuncture can influence areas of the brain involved in how we perceive pain and stress. While research is still ongoing, there is growing evidence that acupuncture is an effective option for conditions like back pain, arthritis, migraines, and other chronic pain syndromes.

How Acupuncture Works

From a scientific perspective, acupuncture supports the body through several key mechanisms:

  1. Nervous System: Stimulates nerves to release endorphins and other pain-relieving chemicals.

  2. Immune Support: Regulates immune cell activity, helping to reduce inflammation and promote balance.

  3. Circulation: Improves blood flow to specific areas of the body, speeding healing and reducing stiffness.

  4. Stress Response: Balances the body’s stress-regulating system (HPA axis), which helps with resilience and recovery.

  5. Brain Activity: Influences brain wave patterns and neurotransmitters like serotonin, which support mood, sleep, and pain control.

Even though researchers are still learning more about the exact mechanisms, it’s clear that acupuncture can have a powerful impact on the nervous system and the body as a whole. The result is better circulation, less pain, calmer stress responses, and improved overall well-being.
